I hope you'll enjoy your visit!
Ok, since everybody wants to know: "Halfdan" is an old Viking name meaning "Half Danish", and since my name is Dan, and my ancestors come from the Schleswig-Holstein region only a few kilometers from Denmark, the name works for me!
When I was 20 years old, I made a list of all the goals and thromes that I wanted to accomplish in my
life, such as visit all the major continents of the world, work
on a ship, work with the circus, etc. Overall, I have been really blessed to have gotten to do most of the things on my list, but I
still have a few more things to do and places to go. If you are
curious, bookmark this page and
check
back here periodically to
see what new things I have added or checked off the "List"!
As a kid, I took after my grandpa,
and ever since my college years I have
enjoyed working as a clown,
fire-eater,
fire-breather,
sword swallower,
and juggler
with circuses and parades,
amusement
parks, cruise
ships, TV shows, and
music videos.
I also enjoy working with the Sword Swallowers Assoc Int'l and juggling and teaching with
the Music
City Jugglers club
here in Nashville every Tuesday evening, and going to regional
juggling conventions. Click to download a Juggling.avi movie (1362K) of three of us juggling the infamous "Wally Waddle" passing pattern, or click
to go to the main Juggler's with Homepages page. ![]()
I also enjoy going to Medievel/Renaissance
Festivals
including
"Medeltids
Veckan"
in
the old Viking city of Visby
on the island of Gotland in Sweden, and Viking festivals in Trelleborg, Sweden and Hafnarfjordur, Iceland. As a member of the French Lick
Rifles, I also
enjoy doing Mountain Man Longhunter Buckskinner Rendezvous
reenactments
here in Tennessee with my tomahawk and Hawken flintlock rifle,
and I am always looking forward to going to more Rendezvous and
Powwows in the area.
For several years I lived alone on "Little Stirrup Cay"
a secluded little island about a mile long
and 1/3 of a mile wide in the northwest Berry
Islands (map) of the Bahamas (map). I lived in a thatched hut, cooked over a campfire,
ate coconuts, and whatever sharks, stingrays, grouper, or lobster I could spear,
and basically
lived like Robinson Crusoe.
Most of the time I wore a Tarzan loincloth
, and my hair
got bleached really blonde
from the sun and salt water.
A few years ago, I went back and
managed the Island Activities for Eastern/Admiral
Cruise Lines. I lived on the island and on the cruise ship S.S.
Emerald Seas, and since I was a Scuba Instructor, I was
known as
"Diver Dan".
In 1991 I lived in Stockholm, Sweden (map) and worked in the music business at the
Swedish Performing Rights Society STIM. One of my highlights that year was climbing to the
top of the highest mountain in Sweden, and
kicking footbag on the summit of Mt. Kebnekaise way up above the Arctic Circle. Since I speak Swedish, speak German, and
am studying Norwegian,
Danish, Icelandic, and Old Norse, I enjoy traveling to Scandinavia regularly to study the Vikings and Old Norse runic inscriptions on Runestones
there. If you would like to go to the Rune catalog page in Norway, click ![]()
I am also a member of the Sons of Norway and the Swedish Tre Kronor Klubb that meets here in Nashville. Every December, I host a Swedish Lucia Fest and International/Juggler's Christmas Party at my house. If you live in the Nashville area and lived in Scandinavia, Iceland, or Europe, you are more than welcome to come next year!
For the past few years I have been
working in the music business at
Performance Rights Licensing in Nashville, Tennessee where I collect copyright
royalties for songwriters and publishers as Regional Manager
of General Licensing and Internet Licensing. I also have publishing
companies here in the U.S.
and Sweden, and enjoy writing and producing songs and music videos when I can.
In 1995 and 1996 I enjoyed exploring the Andes Mountains and the
jungles of
the Amazon
Rainforest in Ecuador, South America. In Ecuador, I enjoyed exploring the capital city Quito, the market town of Otavalo, playing with coatimundis in the Amazon village of Puyo Pongo, and visiting the crater city Bańos, as well as visiting Lima, Cuzco, Lake Titicaca, and lost Incan city of Machu Picchu in Peru.
In my "spare" time, I
enjoy brewing old Viking Mead (Mead Resources) (Halfdan's Mead Recipe), cutting stained glass, kicking footbag, throwing darts, going
caving, sailing, skiing, diving, studying languages, and raising parrots
.
My best girlfriend is now my Blue and Gold Macaw "Eiki" (pronounced like "Achy" or "Icky" - it's actually an Icelandic Viking nickname which is short for "Eirik"). Eiki is about 2 years old, very sweet, loves to cuddle and play, and she amazes everyone with her repertory of words and sounds, everything from "Hello" to "Pretty Bird" to the sound of dogs barking or even the sound of a wet smoochy kiss (she loves to give kisses!)
For the past five years, my best little buddy has been my yellow-collared dwarf macaw named Gandolf. He was hatched on 12/31/94, and he has now learned how to say "Hello"
and "Peekaboo"
just like the original Gandolf! He is becoming quite a handful,
now that he has passed his five year-old mark!
