Sword swallowers are few and far betweeen today. Among the narrow field of Sword Swallowers left around the world today, Dan Meyer is unique.
Performer/Author/Expert
Not only does Dan hold multiple Guinness World Records in sword swallowing and is known among his fellow sword swallowers as one of the top perforners in the world - he swallows serpentine swords, curved swords, multiple swords, and hedge clippers, feats that few others have mastered - but he is also known for his memorable performances on America's Got Talent swallowing curved swords, swords with blades on fire, and 7 swords at once, as well as having a sword WHIPPED from his throat from 8 feet away while juggling 6 clubs!
But of all his appearances, Dan is most well-known for swallowing a 30 inch sword while submerged 20 feet underwater in a tank of 80 sharks and stingrays for Ripley's Believe It or Not in Myrtle Beach, SC. This feat landed him in Ripley's Believe It or Not cartoons, books, and museums around the world.
But as the President of the Sword Swallowers Association International, Dan is also known as the leading expert in the field - a serious historical researcher, a published author, and the world's leading authority in the 4000 year old field of sword swallowing. Not only has Dan networked most of the world's sword swallowers into the association, but as the winner of the Ig Nobel Prize in Medicine at Harvard for his paper on sword swallowing injuries published in the presitgious British Medical Journal, Dan is often called upon to make appearances on documentaries and television programs as the world's leading expert on this ancient art.
After being amazed while watching fire-eaters and sword swallowers, first at circus sideshows while growing up as a child in Indiana, and later witnessing Indian fakirs while serving as a missionary in India, Dan became passionate about learning the incredible feats himself.
After working several years in the music industry in Nashville, London, and Stockholm Sweden, Dan shifted his focus from the field of music to variety entertainment as circus clown, juggler, stilt-walker, fire-eater and ultimately the most dangerous of all performance arts - Sword Swallower!
Hearing from a sword swallower in 1998 that there were "less than a dozen sword swallowers left around the world" led Dan on his quest to locate as many of the surviving sword swallowers as possible while mastering the 4,000-year-old art.
After three years of research, study, and dedicated daily practice, Dan taught himself to swallow solid steel swords up to 30 inches long while networking the remaining sword swallowers into the Sword Swallowers Association International.
Described as a "Christian David Copperfield” who combines real feats with a powerful message instead of just tricks and illusions, Dan eats fire and swallows solid steel swords, blades, sabers, bayonets, and other objects from 15 to 30 inches in length, and up to 8 swords at once.
Dan now travels and performs around the globe, preserving and promoting the ancient art of sword swallowing to audiences and media around the world.
